Cadillac had no trouble getting buyers for its Lyriq EV after bookings were opened. As Electrek learned, GM’s luxury badge sold out bookings for the Lyriq’s Debut Edition in 19 minutes. The brand did not say how many people paid the $ 100 fee, but it is clear that there was at least a pent-up demand for the exclusive electric crossover. More debut edition models will be available at retailers in the summer of 2022.
Deposits do not always translate into final sales if the fee is refundable. Some people can only book a car to pull back when it’s time to make the final purchase. For context, however, VW took eight hours to sell a few thousand units of the ID.4 First Edition. The total number may be small, but 19 minutes is very fast.
The sale was not entirely unexpected. Although the Lyriq is still an expensive EV with a starting price of almost $ 60,000, it promises a healthy range of more than 300 kilometers, 190 kW fast charging and a 33-inch extended infotainment screen. There is also a clear pattern of strong demand for electric motors from well-known names. Ford, for example, is increasing production of the F-150 Lightning after demand far exceeded early manufacturing targets. There is clearly an audience for such cars, even if they still do not dominate their counterparts in the internal combustion engine.
